Team Dunlop player Diego Elias, will be crowned the NEW World No.1 from Monday morning (17th April) in next weeks updated PSA Rankings.
Elias has truly shined throughout this season, showcasing his exceptional skills and securing four titles to his name. With an impressive 11 tournaments in a row where he reached least the quarterfinals, the Peruvian has undoubtedly had his best season to date on the Tour.
Elias has collected two major titles, winning both the U.S. Open and the J.P. Morgan Tournament of Champions. In addition, he triumphed at two other American events, claiming the PSA World Tour Silver level Sturbridge Capital Motor City Open and Pittsburgh Open back to back. These incredible accomplishments are a testament to his dedication and hard work on the court.
Despite encountering some setbacks in recent weeks, including a second-round loss at both the GillenMarkets Canary Wharf Classic and the Optasia Championships, and an injury that forced him to retire, Elias remained determined to continue pushing himself to new heights.
Going into the British Open, it was a battle between himself and Mohamed Elshorbagy to gain the World No.1 spot and with the Egyptian bowing out early, Elias has done enough to be crowned the new World No.1 from Monday.
Elias has been with Dunlop for 13+ years. He has been with Dunlop rackets throughout his entire professional career and in the 100th anniversary of the Dunlop sports brand, he will fulfil his dream to become, officially the best Squash player in the World!
Here are some of the highlights of Diego’s career in squash so far:
