The Necker Mauritius Open – Presented by Beachcomber Resorts & Hotels final saw a masterful performance from Peru’s World No.5 Diego Elias, as he defeated World No.3 Mohamed ElShorbagy to win the trophy, and to finish the tournament without dropping a game.

The Peruvian had defeated world No.2 Paul Coll in the semis, and his incredible form continued into the final, where he took the first ten points. The infamous ‘bagel’ was avoided by ElShorbagy, but Elias won it 11-2 to secure the victory of that game and ultimately the whole match.

He was crowned the victor after a resounding 3-0 win – 11-2, 11-9, 11-8 in just 41 minutes.

“I want to thank everyone for coming here today and I want to thank [Tournament Promoter] Remy [Mabillon] for organising this amazing tournament,” said Elias.

“I love being in this atmosphere, it feels like home. I want to thank all the team, the club and Greg [Gaultier] for helping to organise this, as well as PSA for having a tournament here. I want to thank everyone for organising this huge event.

“I’m really happy to be the first winner of a tournament like this. Hopefully, this keeps happening every year and I can come back next year and try and win it again.

“I want to say thanks to Mohamed. He has been one of the best ever in squash, and I hope one day I can achieve what he has achieved and be like him when he loses. It’s like he is a winner too, I appreciate it a lot, you don’t see it very often.”

It wasn’t just a good tournament for Elias though. In the womens final another Team Dunlop player took to the court although the outcome was less desirable with Tinne Gilis very narrowly missing out on the trophy as she lost 3-2: 11-7, 6-11, 13-11, 6-11, 11-5 in 51 minutes to Egyptian Farida Mohamed. It was still a good tournament for Tinne who keeps up her current run of good form.
