It was a first for Jamie Murray in Cincinnati last night as he finally captured an ATP Masters 1000 trophy, beating Cabal and Farah with partner Bruno Soares, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6.

Last year, Murray and Soares made the final in Cincinnati but failed to take home the top prize. While they went behind in this year’s final, losing the first set 4-6, there was no stopping them from then on. A stroke of fortune gave them the break at 2-2 when Soares mis-hit a forehand lob that turned into a winner. They went on to take the set 6-3. In the deciding match Tie-break they won 8 of the last 10 points earning their victory in one hour and 25 minutes.

“For me to win my first Masters 1000 is obviously really exciting,” Murray said. “Awesome week for us. We played really good in the important moments, kept it together well.”

Murray and Soares have won 9 tour trophies as partners including 2 Grand Slam titles. However, this is the first time the pair have taken home an ATP Masters 1000 and will give them confidence as they head into next week’s US Open.
