Who is the greatest Tennis player that ever lived? Well, there’s a lot of debate about this and ultimately, it comes down to your personal choice but we at Dunlop like to think that it’s probably Rod Laver. In 1962 and 1969, Rod Laver won the Grand Slam, he held all four Grand Slam titles at the same time, he was undoubtedly the best player on the planet for large portions of his career. Due to the Tennis tour being different in the 60’s he wasn’t able to attain the amount of Grand Slam titles as perhaps he could have which always muddies the water a little when we think about who has had the most success in Tennis.
But regardless, there is no doubt that Rod Laver is a legend of the sport. A true icon and a beloved Ambassador for Dunlop. Not only an Ambassador but a key player in the success of Dunlop in the second half of the 20th century.
Now he has a stadium named after him, now he has a tournament named after him, so it’s pretty safe to say that he has made his mark on the Tennis world.
It’s an honour and privilege to listen and learn to a man who has done so much and we encourage you to watch this video which will leave you feeling inspired. Rod talks about his upbringing, he reminisces about his time as a pro and how he motivated himself to become the best player in the world and he offers his advice on what players should do well and what they shouldn’t worry about. There’s no doubt that he is better set than most to talk about what it takes to reach the top of a sport.
