Heather Watson claims Acapulco crown with partner Tatjana Maria

Unseeded Watson and Maria came up against fellow Team Dunlop player Cornelia Lister in the opening round of the Abierto Mexicano, in Acapulco. The match came to a nail-biting end when a contested line call swung the match in Watson’s favour, leading to an 11-9 win in the third-set tie-break.

Watson and Maria went onto beat the fourth seeds in the semi-finals and met another unseeded pair in the final. After another third-set tie-break, Watson and Maria emerged victorious with a dominant display, winning the tie break 10-2.

This victory was Watson’s fourth career doubles’ title, taking her total to 7, including her singles’ titles.
