There was a double trophy day for Team Dunlop players yesterday (14.04.19) as Ali Farag and Diego Elias took home the trophies from the DPD Open and Macau Open respectively.

The inaugural DPD Open Squash Championships took place at the brand new DPD Headquarters in Eindhoven. The unique and stunning venue saw Ali Farag win yet another title in this incredible season as he beat out World No.2 and great rival Mohamed ElShorbagy.

After a close fought first game in which Farag lost 11-13, he went onto the control the rest of the match, eventually winning 11-13, 11-6, 11-4, 11-4 in 46 minutes. It was a dominant display from the Egyptian and edges him closer to completing his dream of ending the season at world No.1.

“The first game was really tough and it was a tough one to lose,” said the 26-year-old Farag afterwards.

“I’m glad I regrouped myself and Nour [El Tayeb] gave me a very good tip after the first. It’s always a pleasure to share the court with someone who is one of the greats of our sport and I’m looking forward to many more battles in the future.

Meanwhile, fellow Team Dunlop player Diego Elias was contesting the final of the Macau Open. The top seed, Elias did not disappoint, earning himself a comfortable victory 11-3, 11-4, 11-9 over the No.12 in the world, Omar Mosaad. It’s the Peruvian’s second title of the year, and second title in succession, after winning the Canada cup, and a giant step in the right direction as he continues his journey towards the top of the rankings, sitting now level with his career high ranking of 9.

Next week sees the players head to El Ghouna offering up another chance for both men to taste victory again.
