Ali Farag has secured his first title of the season with a win over Mohamed Elshorbagy at the US Open. The Egyptian took the match in commanding fashion, winning 3-0: 11-4,11-7,11-2.

It was one of Farag’s best performances of the season as he took and early and strong lead that he never really looked like relinquishing. He dictated the rallies with some scintillating Squash, putting his opponent to the sword in just 40 minutes.

“To be winning not only a major, but the U.S. Open which is one of the most prestigious tournaments we have on the calendar, it feels amazing,” Farag said.

“Obviously I’m very proud with how I played as well, Mohamed has had an unbelievable start to the season, to be unbeaten in 12 matches in a row, and I was one of the victims, to get the win today feels amazing.”

This win means that Ali has now qualified for the season-ending PSA World Tour Finals, which will take a place in June, 2020.

It was Ali’s second US Open title, having won in 2017. It was almost a carbon copy of that event as Nour El Tayeb also won the US Open in 2017 making them the first sporting couple in history to win the same major title on the same day. This time round Nour El Tayeb was a match point away from re-creating the historic feat but went down in 5 games to finish runner up at the event.
